About Us

🌍 Climate Action at Maiden Erlegh Trust 🌱

This week marks a significant milestone in our sustainability journey as we celebrate one year of working in partnership with our climate action advisors, Let’s Go Zero. Their expertise and guidance have been instrumental in helping us take our first confident steps towards decarbonisation across all nine schools and our Shared Services facilities.

Over the past twelve months, we have embraced change, innovation and collaboration to make meaningful progress. Together, we have:

✅ Measured our carbon footprint to better understand our environmental impact
✅ Partnered with Energy Sparks to track and reduce our electricity and gas usage
✅ Completed comprehensive building audits across our sites
✅ Invested in a wide range of energy efficiency retrofit measures – including motion sensors, insulation, draught-proofing, TRVs, double glazing and water-saving solutions
✅ Explored solar energy potential, engaging with energy groups and identifying over £1 million in potential community funding for solar panels
✅ Worked closely with the Greater South East Net Zero Hub to access and understand government support for heat decarbonisation
✅ Commissioned Heat Decarbonisation Plans through Barker Associates to guide our next steps
✅ Introduced an automatic power-down for IT equipment Trust-wide at the end of each school day
✅ Transitioned to reusable plates and cutlery at River Academy and Maiden Erlegh School
✅ Eliminated single-use plastic drinks bottles at River Academy, replacing them with drinking fountains – a model we aim to expand Trust-wide
✅ Piloted a sustainability audit and Climate Action Plan at Cranbury College, laying the foundations for similar initiatives across our schools
✅ Shared our learning and inspired others by presenting our journey at Challenge Partners Thames Valley

We know that sustainability is not a fixed destination but a continuous journey – one that requires creativity, perseverance and collective action. While we are proud of what we’ve achieved so far, we are even more excited about what lies ahead.

💚 Here’s to Year Two of making our Trust greener, smarter, and more sustainable – for our pupils, staff, communities and the planet.
